The Storm After, Passing of Legendary Singer Whitney Houston
I’m every woman…Whitney Elizabeth Houston (August 9,
1963-February 11, 2012)
The life of the extraordinary singer, actress, model and
mother was one that will go down in history.
Her dream of becoming famous paid off at a young age, being surrounded
by her mother Cissy Houston; honorary Aunt Aretha Franklin and Cousin Dionne
Warwick, Whitney was influenced and guided by love into her choice of career. The camera was Whitney’s friend from early on
as she dabbled in modeling as well as acting.
In the early 1980s she became the first woman of color to grace the
cover of Seventeen Magazine
Discovered by Clive Davis in 1983 she was signed on the spot
but did not start her album right away. Houston
made her first appearance with Teddy Pendergrass on “Hold Me” and from there
her career took off. Houston is the only
artist to chart seven consecutive No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hits. She also has sold over 170 million albums,
singles and videos worldwide. She
released 7 studio albums 3 movie soundtracks all that have diamond,
multiplatinum, platinum or gold certifications.
In 1989 Houston met R&B singer Bobby Brown. From this union after marriage their only
child Bobbi Kristina Houston Brown was born one year after her release of her
first film role in The Bodyguard co- starring with Kevin Costner. Film credits also include Waiting to Exhale,
The Preacher’s Wife and Cinderella.
Along with film credits success from the soundtracks were credited to
her.
Houston’s career spiraled as well as took hits with
accusations of her and husband Bobby Brown’s alleged drug and alcohol abuse the
star was putting in a different spotlight barring ridicule and scandals that
were beneath the star, but was that the beginning of the end of the woman that
is in EVERY WOMAN? Her ability to touch so many and break racial barriers in
entertainment put her on a forefront for an idol to many women. She so many from the little girl singing in
the church choir to the girl that could only dream of getting out of her
situation, to the girl that can make it as an actress to the mother that gives
her everything and all just for her children.
Every woman makes decisions in life be it to go left or right, up or
down, be selfless or selfish and Houston was no exception.
Her angelic sound will be missed both amongst family,
friends and fans. Although no one on
earth knows their fate living life to the fullest daily allows for there to be
the glimmer of no regrets. “I’m every
woman it’s all in me.”
